More information about the software

Microsoft Office XP (known in the beta stage as Office 10, and also known as Office 2002) is a suite of the Microsoft Office family distributed by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows platform. This suite is the successor of Microsoft Office 2000 and the predecessor of Office 2003, can also be recognized with the name of ‘Office 10’, or its code name. In the USA, it was released March 5, 2001. It first made its way to European markets on August 4, 2001. The ‘Mainstream’ support phase for Office XP ended on 11 July 2006, the day on which Windows 98 and Me were no longer supported. Extended support ended 12 July 2011. Office XP’s tools were given the title 2002 even though their suffix was “XP”. Word 2002 was the name of Word, instead of Word XP.

The final clippy

Microsoft Office XP’s marketing campaign included the elimination of Clippy (and other Office Assistants) as a default option. Microsoft knew they were very unpopular and unused in users’ lives. These features were not entirely removed in the 2007 version.

Office XP and Windows XP

Microsoft Office XP was launched the same year that Windows XP. Despite the similar names, Office XP can be used with Windows XP as well as Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98 SE. Windows 2000 will also work with it. It maintains a certain compatibility also with Windows Vista but has no compatibility with Windows 7. It is not compatible to Windows 95 (the last compatible Suite for Windows 95 being Office 2000).
